PICC Annual Report 2004
The Print Industries Cluster Council (PICC) is an industry-led Non Profit Organisation (NPO), representing the Paper Manufacturers' Association of South Africa (PAMSA), Printing Industries Federation of South Africa (PIFSA), Publishers' Association of South Africa (PASA) and the South African Booksellers' Association (SABA). The Library and Information Association of South Africa (LIASA) and Centre for the Book are associate members. Industry associations and the Department of Arts and Culture fund the PICC.

Ten Years of Democracy - What Now?
This was the theme for the 2nd Strategic Planning Session of the PICC held 24 May 2004 in Gauteng. Key stakeholders attended the workshop and after highlighting the gains, obstacles and gaps in book development over the past ten years, the delegates identified a long list of key challenges facing the sector.

Are Books Expensive?
Although there are no verified statistics available, it is estimated that only 4% of South Africans buy books. This figure is very low when compared to other countries, especially first world countries. The PICC aims to conduct further research into this area in the near future, however, it is fair to conclude that South Africa is not a reading nation. One reason for this, which is often mentioned by the general public, is that books are too expensive.
